Pet Stores can be wonderful or they can be terrible and depressing. We at Cairo Pets love pet stores – but only the ones that treat their animals with dignity and respect, making sure that the most basic of needs are met.
Cairo Pets has compiled a list of pet stores all over Cairo. We are always looking for new listings, so please email us if you know of any we missed.
When choosing a pet store, please consider the following factors:
- Do the animals have enough food and water? Fresh water should be available during the whole day, not just feeding time.
- Do the animals have enough space to be comfortable?
- Do the animals look healthy?
It may seem like the right thing to “rescue” an animal from a pet shop but in reality your money is only supporting the pet store owner’s business. As long as these unethical people have a market for their pets they will keep abusing animals.
It is heartbreaking to look at a puppy or kitten in a small, dirty cage but please remember: That puppy or kitten came from somewhere. A female dog or cat somewhere is most likely locked in an equally filthy cage and kept as a puppy or kitten producing machine. You are contributing to that animal’s misery also.
With our rating system, we can let others know if a pet store is not living up to its ethical duty to provide humane living conditions for its animals.
